My headmaster recently asked me to organise a team building day for the children at our school. One of the ideas would be that we could make a board of photographs to show parents on a forthcoming open evening of the school. Having been on a team building event with a company that I used to work for previous to my days as a teacher I realised that there was a lot of different approached that I could take. I could find a few beanbags purchase a few blindfolds and read up on a few games on the Internet. Of course how long this would engage the children for and whether the head teacher would believe I had done a good job is another question.
Another option was to buy some team building equipment. I found some great problem solving activities ranging from large puzzles through to equipment for a variety of scenarios that the children would have to solve following certain rules and criteria.
The equipment that I found looked great but for a one off it did not seem the most cost effective. Had I been asked to organise it for a yearly event, this would definitely be the way forward.
I decided to look for a company that could provide the activities for the school. I decided that if it could be related to the curriculum in any way it would be beneficial. I looked for providers of workshops for schools and found a great team building company that fitted all our requirements. We got some great photographs, luckily one of my colleagues had a great camera called a Canon D90 which was amazing. They really paid tribute to the day. A great day was had by all and who knows maybe we will do it next year!
